Hang With The Hawks & Chant With The Cats

Fall entails cooler weather, beautiful scenery, and also the game of football.  Since the season is approaching, I thought it was only fitting that the first event to do in Kansas, was to attend a football or basketball game (specifically football since it's that time of year) at two of our Division 1 schools.
From 'Waving The Wheat' to the traditional Rock Chalk chant, Kansas University takes pride in the achievements of their athletic teams.  A must see for the Kansas go-ers is a KU sporting event.  Growing up in the sunflower state, I've been born and bread a Jayhawk fan.
The University of Kansas is located in Lawrence, Kansas, originally founded in 1865.  Memorial Stadium, where football is played, was built in 1921 and Allen Fieldhouse, where they play basketball, was founded in 1955.
The event to see is the Sunflower Showdown between Kansas rivals, KU and K-State, which is November 30, 2013 located at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.
Kansas State University is located in Manhattan, Kansas, originally founded in 1863.  The Bill Snyder Family Stadium, where they play football and is named after the head coach, just put its final touches on the advancements to it, making it a bigger and nicer complex.  The Bramlage Coliseum, where they play basketball was built in 1988.  Kansas State University thrives on the concept of 'Family', and you feel like just that attending one of their events, especially when all do the Wabash Cannonball in the stadiums.
Both of these schools have top notch athletic departments and school pride.  'Waving The Wheat' and the 'Wabash Cannonball' are techniques used by each school to amp up the crowd at halftimes, time outs, and when a point is scored for their team.  As a Kansan I have been to both a KU and K-State sporting event.  They are filled with excitement, tradition, and pride.  While in Kansas, it is a definite to do, to get the full feel for our Kansas 'sporting vibe.'  Also, the town of Lawrence and Manhattan are great tourist attractions, with many sights to see! Below this text are links to the sports schedules for the year 2013-14, so take a look at those dates and find one that works for you.  If you don't, you'd be missing out.

Enjoy!
